Rumor: Dark Phoenix Will End Main X-Men Franchise for Fox

With the Disney/Fox merger set to finalize next year, it looks like Fox is going to tie up all loose ends with their X-franchise before Marvel Studios reboots them. Now rumor is coming out that Dark Phoenix will actually mark the end of the main X-Men series for Fox.

This comes from Revenge of the Fans' Mario-F. Robles:

Then again, nothing official has been confirmed for this film, so until Fox says something, take this with a grain of salt.

Though this is said to be the end of the X-Men series, there are actually still some films in development that involve mutants. Technically the very last movie with mutants for Fox is the upcoming New Mutants. We have yet to get a solid update on the X-Force movie with Drew Goddard at the helm.

Personally, I think it's the right move to tie everything up before Disney takes over. If they just left this movie open for more sequels, then that would just leave a terrible cliffhanger for the audiences. It's best that they just end this iteration of X-Men so the characters can be rebooted to the fullest with Marvel Studios. They did great with their iteration of Spider-Man, and I can't wait to see what they have planned to integrate the Fantastic Four and X-Men to the MCU.

As for Deadpool, I'm fine if they reboot it as long as they keep Ryan Reynolds in the role. He's worked too hard to get the franchise off the ground, and he plays the character perfectly. If anything, they can say that Deadpool has been in the MCU this whole time.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set to come out Feb. 14, 2019.
