Benioff and Weiss' Star Wars Project is Reportedly Set in the Old Republic Era

We're expecting the release of Star Wars Episode IX this December, but everyone is curious about the other projects by Rian Johnson as well as David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Rumor has it that we finally have confirmation on what era Benioff and Weiss' project is going to be set.

According to Star Wars News Net, their source had told them that the films were going to take place during the Old Republic era—hundreds of years before the Skywalkers were a thing. The source said:

"…approached about working on the next movie this Autumn. It is not the Rian Johnson trilogy, it is the Game of Thrones guys' first movie, and it is set during the Old Republic, as Disney wants to open up the Star Wars timeline and appeal to a more ‘Game of Thrones‘ style audience."

The show has also been described as ‘Star Wars meets Lord of the Rings' and is set to start shooting this fall.

We don't know how accurate the rumor is, but it would make sense that the project should be close to production. Benioff and Weiss have been announced for their Star Wars project for a while now, and with Game of Thrones set to end this April, it's very likely they've had time to start working on their series of SW films.

Hopefully, we get our first look this coming Star Wars Celebration. Besides the Episode IX panel, I'm hoping we get a teaser for Star Wars: The Mandalorian, as well as the other projects by Johnson and Weiss and Benioff.

Catch Star Wars Episode IX in theaters Dec. 20.
