Ron Howard: Playing Han Solo is NOT About Doing a Good Harrison Ford Impression

One of the most common complaints after the release of the first Solo: A Star Wars Story teaser were pointing out the fact that Alden Ehrenreich didn't look or sound enough like Han Solo. Director Ron Howard has actually come out to say that it's not about nailing an impression of Harrison Ford, it's about nailing the character.

Talking to Empire Magazine (via Thomas Storai), Howard said:

"It was always clear from the beginning, before I was involved, that it was not going to be an impression of Harrison. No-one wanted that. Part of Han Solo's character is sort of a vibe and a feel and a body language."

Though Ehrenreich may have his haters now, I think a lot of the fanbase will go along with his casting as long as he plays the character right onscreen. After all, Ewan McGregor looked nothing like a young Alec Guinness, yet everyone says he's perfect as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Hopefully Ehrenreich manages to wow us with his portrayal of Han Solo in the film. Honestly, I'm happy if Ehrenreich just manages to make the character his own without relying too much on the shadow cast by Harrison Ford.

Solo: A Star Wars Story comes out May 25.
