Rian Johnson's Star Wars Trilogy Made for Younger Audiences?

Rian Johnson is currently working on his pet project Knives Out, but after he finishes, he'll be straight to work on his own Star Wars trilogy. We don't have any ideas about what to expect other than it will be different from the main Skywalker saga, but a new rumor suggests what target audience Johnson will be aiming for.

According to Now This is Podcasting (via Reddit), Johnson's trilogy will be aimed at a younger audience, and the film is said to be going for a G-rating. Of course, we should just take this as a rumor for now, but considering that Star Wars was a franchise that was aimed at 12-year-olds (as per George Lucas himself), it would make sense that Johnson would go the same direction as well.

My guess is that this trilogy will try to grow along with the audience much like the rest of the Star Wars shows that have come out. Shows like Star Wars Rebels and Clone Wars start out very kid-friendly, but as the seasons push forward, the audience finds themselves in more mature and dark stories. I assume it would work fantastically for the films as well.

While a lot of people claim that they hated The Last Jedi, I thought Rian Johnson had added some much-needed vigor to the lore. He knew what everyone was expecting and subverted all expectations. Who wants a rehash of everything that's come before it?

We don't know when the first movie comes out, but hopefully, we get some kind of announcement at Star Wars Celebration this April.

Catch Star Wars Episode IX in theaters Dec. 20.
