Power Rangers Reboot will Apparently Time Travel to the 90s

Lionsgate had tried and failed to launch a reboot of the Power Rangers franchise back in 2017, but that isn't going to stop Hasbro from trying to bring the Power Rangers to a new generation of fans. Just in, we have some news about the reboot, and it's said to be going back to the Might Morphin' roots of the 90s.

As per Brand Licensing Europe 2020 (via @CultureCrave), there are plans for the Power Rangers reboot to involve time-travel a la Back to the Future.

We don't have any details on whether the original cast will return, but if they are going back to the 90s, I think it would be safe to assume that they are going to involve an entirely new cast now.

While I grew up with Power Rangers, I admit the franchise is all campy, and I didn't really look at the reboot through a highly critical lens. That being said, the movie was kind of boring, and they didn't really make good use of their new cast of characters. No amount of Bryan Cranston or Elizabeth Banks was going to save that project.

Going back to the reboot though, I'm curious if it's going to be in the same continuity as the original show. With that being said, I'm wondering if Hasbro is going to embrace the campiness of it all. We live in a new era of blockbusters and superheroes, but I think with the right blend of campiness, they can pull off a more sincere Power Rangers reboot that old fans and young kids will eventually love.

No release date has been set for the Power Rangers reboot, but it is expected to be announced sometime next year.
