Peter Jackson Hopes He Could Start Developing the Tintin Sequel Next Year

Back in 2011, Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg attempted to relaunch the Tintin franchise with Secret of the Unicorn, and despite having fair critical reception, the movie flopped at the domestic box office. Jackson, however, is still confident that a sequel would still happen, and he gives us a small update.

Talking to The Playlist, Jackson talks a bit about Tintin 2, and he says that he's expecting to come back to the project, "hopefully in the next year or two." He couldn't give us a release date, but with that goal set in mind, we could be looking at the film's release way past 2025. At that point, I think a full reboot would be in order.

Though the original Tintin did flop, it still made its money back with the worldwide gross. It's so odd that the film wouldn't succeed as well, counting that it did have a lot of good things going for it. Besides Jackson producing and Spielberg at the helm, they were also working on a script that came from the likes of Doctor Who's Steven Moffat as well as Shaun of the Dead's Edgar Wright.

The way animation and motion capture technology have evolved through the years, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing an update on this version of Tintin. I think the movie actually captured the spirit of the source material pretty well, and I like the dynamic between Jamie Bell (Tintin) and Andy Serkis (Haddock).

Hopefully, with this sequel, Jackson actually makes something that most audiences will be able to appreciate.

No release date has been set for the Tintin sequel.
