Pablo Hidalgo Says Empire Strikes Back has the Most Messed Up Timeline

Pablo Hidalgo is a member of the Lucasfilm story group, and from time to time he gives us some insight on Star Wars from an insider perspective. He recently came up with a poll to see how people perceived the timeline of Revenge of the Sith, and he says that he considers Empire Strikes Back to have the messiest timeline of all the SW films.

Probably the biggest complaint about ESB is the time that Luke spends training with Yoda. With Jedi taking years of training, the movie makes it look like Luke only spent a few days training on Dagobah. The same issue can also be said about Rey and Luke training in The Last Jedi. Did Rey just train for a few hours while Finn and Rose went off to find the master codebreaker?

Some just chalk it up that Rey training and the chase between the First Order and the Resistance weren't happening at the same time. From a storytelling perspective though, I thought everything was pulled off pretty well. You won't have a problem if you don't ask too many questions.

With Hidalgo's reputation, he's expected to have an encyclopedic knowledge of Star Wars, since it's mainly his job to keep up with details. When it comes to him saying Empire Strikes Back has the messiest timeline, I wouldn't really argue.

For now, catch Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker which is set to come out Dec. 20.
