No Time to Die: James Bond Producers ‘Not Interested’ in Making Bond a Woman

With Daniel Craig set to appear as Bond one last time in No Time to Die, a lot of discussions is going around as to who will take his spot next. While there is a call for a female Bond from the internet, producer Barbara Broccoli says that a woman Bond isn't a particular direction that she wants to take the franchise.

Talking to Variety, Broccoli says, "[James Bond] can be of any color, but he is male… I believe we should be creating new characters for women — strong female characters. I'm not particularly interested in taking a male character and having a woman play it. I think women are far more interesting than that."

Broccoli isn't the only one who thinks Bond needs that kind of revamp as well. No Time to Die writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge has also said back in July 2019 that she believes that the essential characteristics of Bond—particularly him being a womanizer—can be kept. It's just a matter of having him navigate this new social climate of the #MeToo movement.

At this point, everyone is expecting the new Bond to make an appearance by the end of No Time to Die. We have no idea who to expect, but hopefully, it's someone who can definitely a follow-up to Craig's version. Personally, I kind of want a return to the wacky antics that the franchise was originally known for. Kingsman managed to pull it off, so I imagine Bond can go back in that direction.

No Time to Die is set for a release on April 8.
