Nintendo Announces Sequel for 'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild' with New Trailer

Part of the success of the Nintendo Switch was the exclusive The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which got some pretty great reviews when it came out. Now for E3 2019, Nintendo has made a surprise final announcement that their sequel to Breath of the Wild has already started development.

We don't have that much details yet on what the story will be about, but it looks like some time has passed since the end of Breath of the Wild. We don't know who the mummified creature is in the teaser, but some speculate that this is BotW's version of Ganon.

We also see Zelda wearing her Champion's garb, and her hair is much shorter than in the end of the first game. Though Link is usually the hero of these Zelda games, I'm wondering if Zelda herself is going to be sharing the spotlight as a more active character that the player can control in the sequel. We know there are mods for a playable Zelda for the first game. I'm curious if Nintendo noticed and is thinking about making things official.

No release date has been announced for the Breath of the Wild sequel, but I guess we could be getting the game sometime next year or in 2021. For now, Nintendo is focusing on the release of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening which comes out Sept. 20.
