Footage of an RPG Harry Potter game had leaked back in 2018, and since then we haven’t been getting any significant updates on the title. What’s great is, with the PlayStation 5 Showcase, Portkey Games has officially dropped a trailer for Hogwarts Legacy.

Here’s the official description:

Experience a new story set at #Hogwarts in the 1800s. Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart. Make allies, battle Dark wizards and decide the fate of the wizarding world.

While we have been getting mobile games for Potter, it’s going to be great to actually have an RPG game within the Wizarding World. With storylines and lore already established for the universe in the 1920s (Fantastic Beasts) and the 90s (Harry Potter), the 1800s is kind of the perfect place for a new story to happen, what with that era still unexplored.

I’ll admit, though the world-building of the Wizarding World is pretty great, the lore in kind of inconsistent, so I’m not really expecting this game to be WItcher-levels of detailed. If anything, it still looks like a lot of fun getting sorted into a house, taking lessons, and honing up your skills in witchcraft and wizardry.

No specific release date has been announced for Hogwarts Legacy yet, but it is set to come out in 2021 for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, and PC.
