It’s been almost a year since the release of Black Mirror 4, and though a fifth season is yet to be announced, we’re getting our first episode out of it this month. Netflix has just dropped the trailer for Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.
Here’s the short description for the story:
In 1984, a young programmer begins to question reality as he adapts a sprawling fantasy novel into a video game and soon faces a mind-mangling challenge. Welcome back.
With Black Mirror usually delving into the troubles of technology, I can’t help but feel that the theme around this episode is drugs. Then again, the main character is a programmer, so I’m sure the episode is going to be delving into tech in some way.
Taking a look at the aesthetics though, the episode is gorgeous. With the timeline set in the 80s, it’s like some of the characters jumped right out of Blade Runner. While most Black Mirror episodes are set in the future, it’s pretty interesting to take the concept of the show and see how it runs in a period piece.
While some people are waiting for the full season of Black Mirror 5 to come out, I guess all we have for now is Bandersnatch. It shouldn’t that be big of a bummer if you ask me. Quality shows take time. Plus, there’s also that upcoming Twilight Zone from Jordan Peele so we won’t fall short on these mind-game anthology series.
Catch Black Mirror: Bandersnatch when it comes out Dec. 28.
