New Posters for Doctor Sleep Harken to the Original Shining Film

We're going to be getting one more Stephen King movie next month with Doctor Sleep, and there's a tremendous amount of pressure on the film to deliver since it's a sequel to Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. We got some amazing new posters for the film, and they definitely harken back to the original movie, even going so far as to mention The Shining in the titles.

While the red poster gives us a look at the iconic shot of Danny in the Overlook, I actually prefer the second yellow poster a lot more. It's a very artsy way to callback to the "Here's Johnny!" scene from the original movie, and the color of the poster is also very similar to the original Shining poster that was designed by Saul Bass.

I'm not expecting this movie to have the same impact as The Shining does, but I am keeping an open mind. While the Pet Sematary movie ended up being a bore, the reboots for IT were actually pretty fantastic. I guess the jury is still out for Doctor Sleep to see if it can live up to the original film.

Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the "shine." Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality.

Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra's innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before—at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.

Doctor Sleep hits theaters Nov. 8.
