With the movie bringing back James Earl Jones for Mufasa, I am kind of bummed that a lot of the original cast didn't come back for the movie. I understand why they needed to have Simba be voiced by an African-American actor, but I would have still loved Nathan Lane, Rowan Atkinson, and Jeremy Irons to reprise their roles.

If anything, the film has chosen some great new voices for the cast. Besides having Glover and Beyonce voice the leads Simba and Nala, I thought it was perfect that Seth Rogen is Pumbaa; if you watch Lion King again, Pumbaa and Timon are clearly Simba's "stoner friends" and having Rogen as Pumbaa is some kind of wonderful meta joke. I don't know if Billy Eichner will be able to channel his Billy on the Street humor for Timon though.

With Aladdin making more than half a billion in the box office, there are some high hopes for this Lion King remake. If this goes on, we could even follow up with the Romeo and Juliet-inspired sequel, Simba's Pride.

For now, catch The Lion King when it hits theaters July 19, 2019.
