New Fantastic Beasts 2 Trailer Showcases Every Harry Potter Connection to the Film

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald comes out in barely a week, and WB is pushing the movie as hard as ever. A new trailer connects all the dots between this upcoming movie to the past Harry Potter franchise.

Though we had a few connections to HP with the first film, the sequel promises to bring us a bunch more familiar elements. Besides the return of Dumbledore and Grindelwald, we're also going to be getting the Mirror of Erised once more. There's also some teasers on Voldemort as well as more on the Deathly Hallows symbol.

One character in Fantastic Beasts 2 who didn't get the spotlight in the trailer though, was Nicolas Flamel. Though we didn't get to see him in the first HP film, Flamel was actually the one who created the movie's titular mcguffin—the Sorcerer's Stone. I'll be impressed if the movie manages to poke fun on whether Flamel should be called a philosopher or a sorcerer; then again, I think the more accurate description is that he's an alchemist.

If anything, I'm hoping that Fantastic Beasts manages to stand on its own as compared to standing in the shadow of the Harry Potter franchise. Then again, with the Wizarding World brand, I can't help but feel there are more titles set to come out other than Fantastic Beasts.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald's plans of raising pure-blood wizards to rule over all non-magical beings, Albus Dumbledore enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided world.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald comes out Nov. 16.
