New Bruce Timm Animated Batman Movie in the Works

Bruce Timm is behind the entire visual aesthetic of the DCAU and it all started with Batman: The Animated Series. While DC films have kind of found their own style apart from Timm's, news has it that Timm is working on a new Batman property set to release in 2021.

According to The GWW, WB Animation is working on an ElseworldsBatman movie called Batman: Soul of the Dragon. Here's the description of the story:

In this new version of Batman, his Martial Arts training becomes the focus. The film will reportedly center around Batman, Bronze Tiger, Lady Shiva, and Richard Dragon as we learn they all share a common acquaintance. The Martial Arts Master that trained not only Batman but this set of rouges has been missing for a number of years and under mysterious circumstances. When a cursed relic resurfaces the mystery of their dead master re-opens and Batman and his former classmates face-off in the ultimate test of their Martial Arts kills to gain control of this dangerous relic.

Apparently the story is based on Richard Dragon: King-Fu Fighter and it's the comic that debuted characters such as Lady Shiva and Bronze Tiger. Lady Shiva has had run-ins with Batman in the past, and Bronze Tiger has been a member of the Suicide Squad. As for Richard Dragon, he's basically Iron Fist in the sense that he's a white kung-fu fighter who uses his powers for good.

At some point, I think the story kind of sounds similar to Mortal Kombat; it would make sense as well since WB handles that franchise alongside NetherRealm. If you watch Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, you can even say that a lot of the violence in that film is very close to MK-level gore.

We don't know when Batman: Soul of the Dragon will be officially announced, but the movie is said to be aiming for a release in the spring of 2021.
