Netflix's Umbrella Academy Renewed for a Second Season

Netflix may have canceled their Marvel shows, but they have no shortage of comic book series moving forward. This year just saw the release of The Umbrella Academy, and apparently, the show has been doing so well that it's been renewed for a second season.

This news comes from The GWW who say that Umbrella Academy 2 is set to start production later this year. We don't have that many specifics for the story, but it's likely that they'll try to bring up something from the comics.

With the first season dealing with Number 7 becoming the White Violin, it's basically open game for whatever happens in Season Two. If you've read the comics, you'll notice that the show has gone through some significant differences in order to give more importance to character development.

Personally, I thought the comics were a bit mediocre when I first read them. They were basically the X-Men, only with a more gothic aesthetic. When it came to the show, I was actually more impressed with how they made the characters a lot more interesting and fleshed out. Even Hazel and Cha-Cha have their moments.

We don't have a release date for Umbrella Academy 2 yet, but with a production set to start later this year, we could be looking at a release sometime early 2020. Best bet is it also comes out in February.

Catch the first season of The Umbrella Academy on Netflix.
