Mortal Kombat: What Thor’s Tadanobu Asano Could Look Like as Raiden

Tadanobu Asano may have played second fiddle to Chris Hemsworth in Thor, but he's set to be his own God of Thunder in the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie. Though we don't have any official look of Asano in costume, we do have some mock-up art of his Raiden from internet artist BossLogic.

Though the look does have the signature hat, I'm kind of hoping that the film sticks to the original look of the characters from the 90s. We could either have Raiden in his white suit, or the one with the blue vest. Then again, I'm still up for a redesign—just make sure the hat is there.

Besides Asano, the film has also cast Mechad Brooks (Supergirl) as Jax and Sisi Stringer as Mileena. The first actor in the cast was Joe Taslim (The Raid) who was cast as Sub-Zero, and just recently Ludi Lin who will play Liu Kang.

We don't have the main story for Mortal Kombat yet, but I'm hoping the film doesn't take itself too seriously. Though the lore can get very complicated now, the original games were actually pretty silly, and Fatalities were actually more sadistically wacky than downright gross like in the recent games. If this movie is going for realistic onscreen fatalities, then I think a lighter tone would be the right approach.

At least, that's my opinion.

The Mortal Kombat movie is set to begin production later this year. The film is set to hit theaters on March 5, 2021.
