Minutemen Teased in HBO's Watchmen Set Photo

Fans had mixed feelings when it was announced that HBO's Watchmen wasn't an adaptation of the Alan Moore comic at all, but showrunner Damon Lindelof has promised that it will be in the same spirit as the comic. Speaking of the comic, a new image has popped up from the set (via Birth.Movies.Death.)and it gives us a teaser of the group that preceded the Watcmen—the Minutemen.

Check it out:

With the show said to be focusing on a bunch of cops, I can imagine that the line "Who Watches the Watchmen" is still relevant to the series. After all, "watchmen" is just another word for policemen. They may not be a bunch of superheroes this time, but they technically are still watchmen.

As for the show's connection to the comic, it's still a mystery to some people. Thanks to the poster, we know that the Minutemen exist in this universe. Lindelof himself has also gone to say that the Watchmen comic was canon. With the series set in the modern time, I'm curious if this show was supposed to be the aftermath of the "alien" attack that was constructed by Ozymandias back in the 80s.

Either way, I'm still going to check it out. Lindelof has a pretty great track record (Lost, Star Trek), and I'm sure he's found a unique way to approach the material. If you want something faithful to the comic, you can always check out Zack Snyder's 3-hour movie—which is still pretty great.

No release date has been announced for HBO's Watchmen.
