Michelle Yeoh Allegedly Cast in Shang-Chi

Just like with Black Panther that has shown pride for the African culture, Marvel Studios is aiming to make Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings a celebration of Asian culture, and it looks like the movie has cast this Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star for a part.

According to The Weekly Planet (via ComicBookMovie), Michelle Yeoh has been cast in an undisclosed role in Shang-Chi. What's curious is, Yeoh has already played a part in the MCU, making a cameo as a Ravager in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. While it's possible that she would reprise that role for Shang-Chi, I think it's likely that she has been cast in a completely different part. If Gemma Chan can play two different characters for Captain Marvel and Eternals, then Marvel can probably do the same with Yeoh.

This is just a rumor for now, so we should take it with a grain of salt; then again, Yeoh is probably one of the most popular middle-aged Asian actresses out there, so I can imagine she would be playing a part in something like Shang-Chi.

Back when Doctor Strange came out, the movie was receiving a lot of flak for ‘whitewashing' the character of the Ancient One by casting Tilda Swinton. A lot of people had pushed online to cast Yeoh for the part, but nothing ultimately happened. Wouldn't it be cool if Yeoh played a previous Sorcerer Supreme? What if she was Agamotto? I'm just spit-balling here.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set to hit theaters Feb. 12, 2021.
