Matrix 4 Casts Sense8 Actor Toby Onwumere

The Matrix 4 continues to push forward, with recent casting news confirming that Jonathan Groff (Frozen, Mindhunter) has joined the cast. Now we have news that a former Wachowski collaborator is joining the cast.

According to Deadline, the film has cast Tony Onwumere in an unrevealed role. Onwumere had worked with producer Lana Wachowski before in Netflix's Sense8 series, and it's great to see that he's also landed a role in her latest project. Onwumere played the role of Capheus in Sesnse8, and he had also played the love interest of Jamal Lyon in Fox's Empire series.

Besides Onwumere, new cast members for The Matrix 4 include Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen), Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), and Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist). Franchise vets who will be making a return include Jada Pinkett Smith, Carrie-Anne Moss, and of course, Neo himself, Keanu Reeves.

We don't have any idea what to expect with this fourth Matrix film yet, but I have a feeling the Wachowskis are going to go the reboot/sequel route where older cast members return to ‘pass the torch' to a new generation of characters. Star Wars did it back in 2015, and we've been getting other reboot/sequels like Blade Runner 2049, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and next year's Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

No release date has been announced for the fourth Matrix film, but hopefully, we can get a release date sometime in 2021 or 2022.
