Marvel’s Eternals will Feature First Onscreen Same-Sex Kiss with Brian Tyree Henry’s Phastos

We have been getting news that Eternals will feature the MCU's first openly gay character, and while some were sure that was Richard Madden's Ikaris, it looks like it's actually Brian Tyree Henry's Phastos.

Talking to NewNowNext, Haaz Sleiman, who plays the husband of Phastos, confirms, "Oh yeah, absolutely, and it's a beautiful, very moving kiss… Everyone cried on set. For me, it's very important to show how loving and beautiful a queer family can be."

Sleiman, who is gay himself, also had this to say about the scene he shared with Henry:

"Brian Tyree Henry is such a tremendous actor and brought so much beauty into this part, and at one point I saw a child in his eyes, and I think it's important for the world to be reminded that we in the queer community were all children at one point… We forget that because we're always depicted as sexual or rebellious. We forget to connect on the human part."

While a lot of people are sure to be happy that this is a big milestone for the MCU, I'm still holding my breath on how the scene will play out in the film. Everyone was ‘celebrating' Josh Gad's openly gay character in Beauty and the Beast, but was slapped in the face when his homosexuality was played for laughs and was only heavily implied.

With the MCU making big strides with representation, hopefully, that won't be the case when it comes to Eternals. Personally, I'm still holding out that Ikaris is gay as well. Who says only one character has to be LGBTQ?

For now, Eternals is set for a release date on Nov. 6.
