Marvel has Finally Found a Director for Black Widow

After ten years of Marvel Studios, Black Widow is finally getting her own solo movie. News is, Marvel has finally found someone to helm after meeting with over 70 directors.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Australian director Cate Shortland has been hired to direct Black Widow. The audition process was said to have prioritized female directors for the part, and Shortland was a personal pick of Scarlett Johansson herself; she had admired Shortland's work on the movie Lore.

For now, Shortland will be working on a script from Jac Schaeffer, who wrote the most recent draft of Black Widow. Schaeffer has also written the script for the upcoming Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Nasty Women.

We don't have an official synopsis of the movie yet, but it's said to be more of an origin story which will take place before the events of the first Avengers. There were even rumors at one point that the film will have Natasha Romanoff having a run-in with HYDRA's top assassin, the Winter Soldier. It makes sense since she was the only one who had any info on him in the second Captain America movie.

For now, there is still no release date for Black Widow, but you can catch the first woman-lead MCU film, Captain Marvel, in theaters March 8, 2019.
