MIB International has Bombed Harder than X-Men Dark Phoenix

The summer box office has not been kicking off to a good start. After the dismal opening of X-Men: Dark Phoenix, news has it that the new Men in Black reboot/sequel MIB: International, has actually bombed harder.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dark Phoenix had opened with a measley $33 million at the box office. Now MIB:I has opened with only $28.5 million.

If anything though, the biggest bomb of the weekend was the new Shaft movie which only earned $8.3 million despite the return of starts like Samuel L. Jackson and classic Shaft actor Richard Roundtree. Admittedly the trailer was kind of underwhelming, and I don't know how much you can count on nostalgia to bring in an audience.

Though we've been getting flops here and there, I'm sure things are bound to look up soon. Toy Story 4 is getting good reviews, and the movie is set to come out by the end of the week. Child's Play can't even hope to compete with the numbers TS4 will get, but I'm sure it will find its audience in the following weekend. Not to mention Spider-Man: Far from Home is set to come out in a few weeks as well.

Despite the flop, I still think fans should check out MIB: International themselves and see if they like the movie or not. The Hellboy reboot was absolutely thrashed when it came out, but I found the film to be actually a lot of fun. I'm just saying don't be sheep, that's all.

MIB: International is now in theaters.
