Live-Action One Piece in Development with Netflix

We know that Netflix is working on a live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop, but it looks like the streaming service has another big anime adaptation in the works.

According to Deadline, Netflix has given the green light to a live-action adaptation of One Piece. The series is said to run for 10 episodes and will come from Tomorrow Studios, the same studio working on Cowboy Bebop.

The show will be run by The X-Files' Steven Maeda with Matt Owens (Agents of SHIELD) serving as writer/executive producer. The show also has the author of the manga Eiichiro Oda attached as an EP, so hopefully, we get a show that's faithful to the material.

If anything, Netflix is still kind of in the dark when it comes to anime adaptations. A lot of fans still haven't forgotten how the live-action Death Note went down. Maybe we can make a better gauge of what to expect with One Piece once we get our hands on the Cowboy Bebop series. Let's hope Netflix doesn't disappoint.

If you're unfamiliar with the widely popular One Piece, the story focuses on wannabe pirate Monkey D. Luffy as he assembles the best crew to attain the biggest treasure of all—One Piece. It's your typical shonen anime, with Luffy being the bumbling protagonist with a good heart and undying love for his friends. With the manga still ongoing since 1997, Netflix will have a goldmine of material to have this show going on for a while—that is if it succeeds.

No release date has been set for Netflix's One Piece series.
