Legion’s Jemaine Clement Joins Cast of Avatar Sequels

James Cameron's Avatar sequels have cast a lot of big actors over time, with the likes of Vin Diesel, Kate Winslet, and Edie Falco, but now they've announced a new cast member in the form of Legion's Oliver Bird.

As it turns out, Jemaine Clement will be joining the cast as a marine biologist. Here's the official announcement:

While Marvel fans may know Clement best as Oliver Bird from Legion, I'm sure a lot more people recognize him for starring and co-directing with Taika Waititi in What We Do in the Shadows. He's also half of the New Zealand comedy folk duo Flight of the Conchords. Even the announcement of him joining Avatar is a callback to one of the Conchords' more popular songs:

With the sequels moving from the sky into the seas, I'm expecting Clement's marine biologist to have a more important role this time around. I mean, I don't expect them to cast someone like him and not have him do anything that essential to the story. If anything, he'll make for some great comic relief, but I wouldn't be opposed to having him do some more dramatic stuff.

We don't know when we're going to get our first teaser for the film, but I would suspect something before the year ends.

The first of the many Avatar sequels is set to come out in Dec. 17, 2021.
