Admittedly, when the Joker movie was first announced, a lot of people were scratching their heads on WB’s decision, but with the movie in production, everyone is loving the look of Joaquin Phoenix’s Clown Prince of Crime. Director Todd Phillips shares this cool image of Phoenix taking a smoke break in costume.

Admittedly, through the many iterations of Joker, this one seems to be the only one that smokes. Sure we’ve had a version of the Joker that takes pills in the comics, but I don’t recall seeing a version of Mr. J that smokes. For all the craziness that Jared Leto’s version of the Joker is, we don’t even see him drinking alcohol.

No doubt, Phillips and Phoenix are trying to bring something entirely new when it comes to this version of the Joker; then again, it isn’t without its callbacks to previous iterations. Sure the makeup is different, but the greasy hair seems to come from Ledger’s Joker while the colors of the costume seem to draw from Cesar Romero’s 60s Joker costume.

What I’m waiting for is to actually hear Phoenix talk as the character. Don’t forget the Joker’s signature laugh.

We don’t know much about Joker yet, but hopefully, we get our first synopsis before the year ends. I’m expecting a teaser to be released sometime in April.

Joker is slated for a release on Oct. 4, 2019.
