Joker Director Todd Phillips Open to Making a Sequel

A lot of DC fans are excited for the release of Todd Phillips' Joker film, and since it's not in the main DCEU timeline, a lot of people are thinking the movie is a one-off. What's interesting is, Phillips is actually open to making a sequel for the film, should Joaquin Phoenix be open to it.

Talking to Total Film (via Games Radar), Phillips said:

"One thing I will tell you: I would do anything with Joaquin, any day of the week… There's nobody like him. If he was willing to do it, and if people show up to this movie, and Warners came to us and said, ‘You know what? If you guys could think of something…' Well, I have a feeling that he and I could think of something pretty cool."

For now, some reactions are a bit divided on the possibility of a sequel for Joker. For one, a lot of fans have loved the idea of a one-off story that doesn't have to set-up any future films, but if Phoenix's portrayal is as good as some people claim, no doubt a lot of people would love to see the character return.

I guess we just really have to wait and see how Joker turns out. Personally, I'm fine with just one movie because it opens us up to more one-offs in the future. If they decide to continue this timeline, then the DCEU could just get more complicated moving forward.

That's just my opinion, at least.

For now, Joker is set to hit theaters Oct. 4.
