While Jim Carrey has been starring in some more mature projects lately, he’s coming back to kids movies with the release of Sonic the Hedgehog. He’s currently doing the press rounds for the film, and in a recent interview, he revealed that he can still pull of his creepy Grinch smile from Ron Howard’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Check it out:

While a lot of people thought it was make-up, a lot of the final look of the Grinch was based on Carrey’s actual face. Seeing that Carrey had made his whole career making funny faces, I have no doubt that he still has a lot of those wacky looks just in case anyone asks him to bring one up on the fly.

While the Grinch was a success, the same couldn’t be said for The Cat in the Hat starring Mike Myers—eventually killing the idea for more live-action Dr. Seuss films. For now, Hollywood seems to understand that the best way to adapt these books is through the medium of animation, and no matter how you put it, Benedict Cumberbatch’s animated Grinch still looks way better than Carrey’s live-action one.

For now, Carrey is set to star as Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog. If you aren’t so keen on kids’ movies though, you can catch Carrey in his more compelling role as Jeff Pickles in the fantastic Kidding on Showtime.

Sonic the Hedgehog hits theaters Feb. 14.
