James Wan Hasn't Signed Up To Direct Aquaman Sequels Yet

When it comes to successful comic book franchises, the same director is usually brought in for the next movie. The same happened with the Russo Brothers, James Gunn, and Patty Jenkins. With Aquaman being a hit, a lot of people are expecting James Wan to return to helm the sequel, but as it turns out, that wasn't the case.

When asked by Variety how many Aquaman films he's signed on to helm, Wan answers, "This is the only one I've signed up to do so, we'll see… let's not talk about a sequel before this one's even come out!"

I imagine that a lot of pressure was on Wan to deliver a good DCEU movie seeing that the entire franchise went on a halt after Justice League. It would make sense for him not to be eager to work on a sequel, but seeing that he's done some great work with the film, it's possible that the studio will think of him as the comfortable choice.

Personally, I thought the film could've used more polishing when it came to the writing. Besides some choices of dialogue, I thought the story was a tad predictable. I have to hand it to Wan when it came to bringing the world to life though. The effects of the film are absolutely gorgeous, and the movie is just a real spectacle of visual effects.

Like Wan says, we should just focus on the first Aquaman at the moment. The way it looks, it's a big hit for DC. I wouldn't be surprised if they announced the sequel soon.

Catch Aquaman in theaters Dec. 21.
