James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad Sets September Start Date

It seemed like things were moving too fast when James Gunn was hired to direct The Suicide Squad for DC. We know that the film is aiming for a start later this year, but now we have some solid dates for start of production to wrap.

According to Geek Vibes Nation, The Suicide Squad is aiming to start production Sept. 23 in Atlanta, Georgia, and is aiming to wrap on Jan. 31, 2020. We don't have any other information there, but an early wrap for SS2 in January could lead to an earlier start for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

While it may seem that Gunn is working on two separate projects back to back, I can imagine that the production for Guardians 3 would go smoother since he had started working on the movie for a while before he was fired by Marvel last year. Now he's back, and it will probably be like pressing the "play" button on a movie that was suddenly on "pause."

I'm actually more concerned for The Suicide Squad. With the speed that the movie is developing, I'm curious about whether Gunn is simply being rushed by WB for the project or if he really did just have something great in his head. Hopefully, it's the latter, because DC cannot afford any more flops now that they seem to be getting their stride finally.

For now, Gunn's The Suicide Squad is aiming for a release on Aug. 6, 2021.
