James Gunn's The Suicide Squad Rated R?

With the release of films like Aquaman and Shazam! people would be thinking that the DCEU is shifting to a more kid-friendly direction. The Joker movie, apparently looks to be more mature though, plus we've also gotten confirmation that Birds of Prey is aiming for an R-rating. The thing is, it looks like James Gunn's Suicide Squad is too.

This comes from The GWW's Thomas Polito on Twitter:

Of course, there's still a lot of time for the studio to decide on whether they're sticking to an R-rating for this movie, but as the success of Deadpool has proven, you don't need a film to be kid-friendly to make a splash in the box office.

When you look at Guardians of the Galaxy, you can even argue that it's one of the more mature films in the MCU. If you even delve even further into Gunn's filmography, you know he can mix mature themes within comic book films—as per 2010's Super starring Rainn Wilson:

We don't know what to expect from The Suicide Squad yet, but hopefully Gunn will be bringing his A-game when it comes to the film. He was able to bring obscure characters to the mainstream with GOTG; what are the odds he can pull off the same magic with SS2?

The Suicide Squad stars Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, and Viola Davis. Rumor is also going around that Benecio del Toro (GOTG) is being considered for the part of the villain.
