James Gunn Confirms that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has NOT been Delayed

COVID-19 has effectively delayed productions for almost every film project, and we're getting release dates pushed back left and right. Word had it that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had been delayed yesterday, but director James Gunn himself has come out on Twitter to confirm that this is false.

Here's his post:

We don't know exactly when Guardians 3 plans to shoot, but if hasn't been delayed yet, then it's probably confirmation that they plan to start production late into next year. With that in mind, it's very likely the film could release sometime late in 2022 or maybe even early 2023.

Originally Gunn was set to work on the 3rd Guardians film earlier, but a little scandal about old tweets came out and he was fired by Disney. After public outcry though, he was eventually brought back; but the time he was off Marvel, Gunn had gone over to DC and signed a deal to direct The Suicide Squad. Now Gunn is set to finish SS and will jump right over to work on Guardians 3 when he's done with that.

Gunn had already worked on pre-production for Guardians before he left, so hopefully, he had used the quarantine to polish up his script for the 3rd movie. I also wouldn't put it past him to put some winks and nods about his firing. After all, his return is kind of a statement against Cancel Culture, which has become a hot button issue for many people online.

We don't know when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 comes out, but The Suicide Squad is set to release on Aug. 6, 2021.
