Fantastic Beasts 2 New Poster: It's Grindelwald vs. The Wizarding World

The ending of the first Fantastic Beasts film had the arrest of Johnny Depp's Gellert Grindelwald, but the sequel is going to have him escaping the hands of the MACUSA and going head to head with Newt Scamander. The movie is set to come out next month and WB gives us this new poster with Grindelwald right in the spotlight.

Of course, Grindelwald has his back to the camera, but we see him facing off with the rest of the cast including Newt and his gang, as well as Jude Law's Albus Dumbledore. The Potter lore states that Dumbledore wins the Elder Wand from Grindelwald via a historic duel, but it's possible that the franchise could be saving that clash for a future film down the line.

Amber Heard's Domestic Abuse Accusations

Though I think Depp will do a good job as Grindelwald in the films, a lot of people online have been calling for him to be removed from the job after the accusations of domestic abuse from Amber Heard came out. Depp had denied all of the accusations, but once word came out, a lot of people were demanding Depp's career be put on a stake like the rest of the #MeToo offenders like Louie C.K. and Kevin Spacey.

It's just my opinion, but ever since the accusations came out, Depp seems to have backslid a bit, and it's starting to show in his performances. Dead Men Tell No Tales featured a very tired and unintelligible Captain Jack Sparrow, and Depp's Grindelwald appearance in SDCC 2018 was hard to understand as well.

We don't know the whole truth about Depp's life offscreen, but hopefully, everything works out fine for this movie in the end. I mean, Grindelwald is the title character now.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald hits theaters Nov. 16.
