Is Star Wars: Episode IX Bringing in a New Clone Army?

Back in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there was a line where Kylo Ren mocks Hux about a clone army being more efficient than regular stormtroopers. Though this seemed to be a throwaway line referencing the prequels, I have some speculation that Kylo will actually commission a clone army now that he's the supreme leader of the First Order.

Yesterday a photo came out of a production shirt that teases a new trooper coming to Star Wars: Episode IX. The pattern has come out again thanks to Making Star Wars' Jason Ward, so it's very likely that it is part of the production. Check out the pattern:

While the pattern makes use of the standard look for the new stormtroopers, there's a new element in the design where there's a straight line down the middle of the face. Do you know where else that line appeared?

There have been rumors going around that the film will introduce a "Red Legion" of stormtroopers this time around, and I think there's a very good chance that they could all be highly trained clones of one person or maybe a mix of topnotch stormtroopers. Either way, it would be exciting to see the arrival of a new clone army to the sequel trilogy—especially counting that this is the final film.

Clone Wars II, anyone?

Again, keep in mind this is just speculation on my end. Until Star Wars: Episode IX is officially unveiled in Celebration this April, I'm going to stick to my guess.

Catch Star Wars: Episode IX in theaters Dec. 20.
