IT: Chapter Two made a huge splash at the box office last weekend, and it looks like another successful adaptation of the Stephen King story. While the movie does close the book on Pennywise and the Losers Club, some fans are positive that WB will still make a third film; as it turns out, Bill Skarsgard, who plays Pennywise, is onboard for it.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Skarsgard was asked about possibly returning as Pennywise, to which he said, “It would have to be the right type of approach to it… The book ends where the second movie ends, so that is the final chapter of this story. There is this interesting aspect of going back in time before all this happened. There might be a story there that might be worth exploring. Obviously that would be a story that’s not in the book, it would be a freestanding story, but obviously within the same universe. So, there might be something interesting out of it. I think it would be fun.”

Some actually guess that the third film could be a prequel that will follow Pennywise’s earlier days on Earth. The first movie actually has a deleted scene where Pennywise eats a baby in the 1600s, but it was removed for being too racy for the film; sure we could watch a young boy have his arm torn off, but God forbid a baby is implied to be eaten offscreen by a murderous alien. If you ask me, the movie could perfectly end with “it” finally choosing the Pennywise form, thus completing the story.

Of course, we don’t know if WB really is planning a third film, but seeing as the franchise has been so successful, it’s likely they’re considering it. I think it’s just important that director Andy Muschietti should be attached. With him working on Flash next though, it could be a while before we get an update on Pennywise.

Catch IT: Chapter Two now in theaters.
