IT: Chapter 2 Director Promises a Scarier and More Intense Sequel

The reboot of Stephen King's IT last year ended up being one of the most successful horror movies of all time, and they are set to start production on the sequel this summer. Director Andy Muschietti is teasing that the sequel will be even scarier than the first film, and the movie will not be for the faint of heart.

Muschietti confirms during an appearance at CinemaCon (via Fandango's Erik Davis):

So far, we still don't have a full cast for the grown up Losers Club, but we have heard that the film has tapped Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, and Bill Hader. There's still a lot more roles to fill, but the movie still has a lot of time for casting till production begins.

The second part of IT is usually considered to be the weaker part of the entire bought with Pennywise, but seeing what Muschietti brought to the table with the first film, I would be amazed if he could get the same feel for the sequel—intensely scary, but with a lot of heart.

Muschietti has said before that he doesn't want to outright reveal Pennywise's alien origin as the mystery surrounding the character is what makes him scarier. Hopefully we'll get an end that's satisfying enough.

Why do I have a feeling they want to stretch this out into a trilogy, though?

IT: Chapter 2 is set to come out Sept. 6, 2019.
