IMAX Trailer for Brad Pitt’s Ad Astra Gives Us More Plot

Brad Pitt may have shared the spotlight with Leonardo DiCaprio in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but next month we're going to have him be the lead in a sci-fi mystery film called Ad Astra. We've been getting a lot of great previews for the movie, but the newest IMAX trailer gives us a good look at the plot.

Here's the official description:

Astronaut Roy McBride (Brad Pitt) travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos.

While previous trailers have only hinted at the conspiracy surrounding Tommy Lee Jones' character, this latest trailer outright tells us what he's being blamed for. It's a bit spoiler-y, I admit, but I guess 20th Century Fox is trying their best to make this film interesting. After all, it's not based on a comic or a previously established franchise; and those have become huge risks in the modern box office climate.

If anything, the film looks to be an homage of all the space movies that have come before it. I'm getting a lot of 2001: A Space Odyssey vibes, and there's also hints at other great films like The Martian and Moon.

It's also worth noting that Ad Astra translates to, "to the stars," in Latin.

Ad Astra is directed by James Gray and stars Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Live Tyler, and Donald Sutherland. The film is set to come out Sept. 20.
