Hawkeye Series will Allegedly Feature Original Ronin, Echo

Rumor had come out yesterday that Disney+'s Hawkeye series will be featuring Agents of SHIELD character Mockingjay, and now word is coming out that we'll have a new face that was originally introduced in the Daredevil comic.

According to The Illuminerdi, a casting call has come out for a character named Echo. The description for the role describes a "deaf, Native American, First Nations, Indigenous and/or Latinx, independent, athletic and bright". They are also looking for an actress who can perform American Sign Language.

In the comics, Maya Lopez a.k.a. Echo was a supporting character of Daredevil, and like Matt Murdock, she is also differently-abled in fact that she's deaf. Like Daredevil, she is also a skilled martial artist and is said to have a photographic memory that allows her to mimic every move she sees (like the Taskmaster). As for weaknesses, her deafness does not allow her to be as proficient in the dark, and won't be able to read lips of people who are wearing masks.

As for her connection with Hawkeye, Echo was the first to take the mantle of Ronin—a persona that Clint Barton had adopted during Avengers: Endgame. We don't know how Echo will play into the series, but I can imagine she is someone who knows Clint after the events of the Snap, probably helping him dole out vigilante justice.

For now, this is just a rumor, so we should take it with a grain of salt. But hopefully, we get some official confirmation soon.

Hawkeye is set to hit Disney+ in the fall of 2021.
