Grinch Billboards in LA Are Making Fun of Aspiring Actors

Illumination's The Grinch is set to come out this November, and the film has decided to cleverly market one of cinemas nastiest characters. The Grinch billboards in LA, for one, are making fun of any aspiring actors who are hoping to ‘make it' there.

If you need more context, it's been a common trope that a lot of people move to LA to be closer to Hollywood, and from there they launch their acting careers. Of course, not everyone manages to make it big, and the Grinch poking fun at them is just a clever use of the character for marketing. I'm curious what kind of slogans they have for other cities.

Here's one from Chicago:

With December being dominated by blockbusters like Mary Poppins Returns, Aquaman, and Bumblebee, The Grinch has opted to release a month earlier despite its Christmas theme. Benedict Cumberbatch is set to play everyone's favorite Christmas grump, and I have to say Illumination's animation style is perfect for bringing Dr. Seuss' characters to the big screen.

We don't know how the Grinch will fare at the box office, but we know that Illumination has already found success with another grumpy villain character—Gru from DespicableMe. How hard would it be for them to make The Grinch likeable?

Here's the official description of The Grinch:

The Grinch tells the story of a cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl's generous holiday spirit. Funny, heartwarming and visually stunning, it's a universal story about the spirit of Christmas and the indomitable power of optimism.

The Grinch hits theaters Nov. 9.
