Ghostbusters 2016 Director Still Hopes for A Sequel

Ghostbusters 2016 (or Ghostbusters: Answer the Call) was a box office bomb, and it bombed so hard that Sony decided to ignore the film and just make a reboot/sequel that will follow the original timeline that started back in the 80s. Though it seems that Sony is trying to sweep the 2016 version under the rug, director Paul Feig is still keeping hopes up for a sequel.

Talking during a Ghostbusters Fan Fest last weekend, Feig said:

"Thank you so much, thank you for keeping the torch alive for Answer the Call. We're hoping there's a second call. And if we do get it, it's all cause of you. Love you."

When the news came out that Sony was going to go back to the original timeline, there was a lot of rejoicing from the fans of the original. Then again, there were also some people who were vocal about their displeasure that the new timeline would be dropped. Star Leslie Jones, for one, was ranting on Twitter about it.

If you ask me, the reason the Ghostbusters 2016 movie failed wasn't because of the new busters being women at all, but because it was just a bad movie. Even if they cast the whole thing with men, I think it would have still been terrible. Sure there are those people hating on the film for the wrong reasons, but when it comes down to it, the reboot just didn't do the franchise any justice—and I was walking in hoping it was good.

Maybe they will make a sequel, who knows, but I'm hoping they have a woman in the director's chair this time instead of Feig. I don't have someone specific in mind, but I'm just hoping they do everything differently.

The next Ghostbusters movie comes out on July 10, 2020.
