George R.R. Martin Wishes They Kept Lady Stonheart in the Show

It's no mystery that the HBO show Game of Thrones has already surpassed the story of the Ice and Fire books and is now making up its own storyline as it heads toward the finale next year. There's a significant difference between the book series and the show, and GoT creator George R.R. Martin reveals which character in the books he wishes made it to the screen.

Talking to Esquire China (via Forbes), Martin explains:

"In the book, characters can be resurrected. After Catelyn is resurrected as Lady Stoneheart, she becomes a vengeful, heartless killer. In the sixth book, I still continue to write her. She is an important character in the set of books. [Keeping her character] is the change I most wish I could make in the [show]."

Though Catelyn Stark's story may have already ended in HBO's Game of Thrones, the books continue her saga as the vicious Lady Stonheart, a resurrected corpse bent on revenge on the Lannisters. There may be no more room to bring her into the show all of a sudden, but I bet we could see a flashback of hers at some point, thanks to Bran Stark and his timey-whimey Three-Eyed Raven powers.

As it looks for now, it seems that the show is busy gearing up for one last showdown with the White Walkers and the armies of Daenerys Targaryen. Though I would love to see more character intrigue, even a sudden appearance from Lady Stonheart would seem a questionable move.

Game of Thrones 8 comes out sometime next year.
