After what is considered by fans to be the worst final season in television history, the Emmys have decided to give Game of Thrones a win by naming the show the Best Drama Series of 2019.
According to NBC News, the final season of Game of Thrones had won for the best drama series over the likes of Better Call Saul, Killing Eve, Bodyguard, Ozark, Pose, Succession, and This is Us.
The awards don't stop there, either. Peter Dinklage had also won Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. There were also nominations for Best Supporting Actors/Actresses with Alfie Allen, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, and Gwendoline Christie. Emilia Clarke was also nominated for Best Actress, and Kit Harington for Best Actor.
For the more technical side of things, Game of Thrones got a nomination for Best Writing for the Iron Throne episode, as well as a nomination for Directing in three episodes, The Iron Throne, The Last of the Starks, and The Long Night.
If anything, a lot of fans are pleased that there wasn't a direct Emmy win for David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, seeing as they have become the face of the blame when it comes to the fall of the final season. Despite the negativity though, the fans have not been shy about their appreciation for the performances of the cast and the crew involved. It's ultimately "D&D" who have been receiving the bulk of the internet hate.
Game of Thrones may be done, but HBO is planning multiple spinoffs, the first of which could come out in 2021.
