Game of Thrones Star Emilia Clarke Reveals the TRUE Culprit Behind ‘Coffee-Cup Gate’

There were a lot of gripes about the final season of Game of Thrones, and one of the biggest ones was a goof that had a coffee cup right in front of Daenerys Targaryen. For months people have been pointing fingers at who left it there, but Emilia Clarke has revealed the truth.

In an interview with The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Clarke reveals that the cup wasn't hers, but Varys actor Conleth Hill's. The bit starts at 2:11:

As it turns out, Hill was very aware that it was his cup way back when the goof was spotted, but he didn't want to admit it seeing that Clarke was getting a lot of heat for it. Apparently he had the guts to finally open up to Clarke during a pre-Emmy's party with the rest of the Game of Thrones cast and crew.

If anything, it's a fantastic story, and kind of stays true to Varys' character of being sneaky. Ever since the finale, a lot of people have been sympathetic to Hill, seeing as he was one of the more vocal castmates who were open about their dislike for the final season's writing. Now with the hype for the show dying down, more and more people from the cast are being more honest about what they thought about the finale, and Clarke herself even said that she was "flattered" from all the backlash.

For now, HBO has announced a spinoff House of the Dragon focusing on the rise and fall of the Targaryen dynasty, but we have yet to get a release date.
