Game of Thrones’ Benioff and Weiss Working on 3 Star Wars Films?

Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have been hired by Lucasfilm to work on their own ‘series' of Star Wars movies, but until GoT 8 comes out, we haven't been getting any significant updates. What's interesting is, it's said that the two have actually been given 3 films to work on.

This was somewhat confirmed by HBO president Casey Bloys when he tried to explain the delay of another show from Weiss and Benioff, Confederate. He tells TV Line:

"Dan and David are finishing up the final season [of Game of Thrones] and then they are going to go into the Star Wars universe… When they come out of that, I assume they will come back to us."

Bloys goes on to confirm, "The delay has to do with [the fact] that they were offered three movies."

Just in case you're curious, Confederate is said to be a show about an alternate timeline where the Confederacy won the American Civil War and the institution of slavery would have never been abolished. The show actually caught a bit of a snag with a controversy with activists saying that Benioff and Weiss can't make a show about slavery because they're white Americans. Personally, I think the premise of the series is pretty interesting and the showrunners' race shouldn't be an issue when it comes to them wanting to tell a story. Even with the accusations on Game of Thrones, I think the point of both shows in entirely different and it shouldn't be a basis on whether Confederate should be made.

Going back to Star Wars though, we don't have enough details yet on how Weiss and Benioff will approach their series. Some are thinking it would take place during the Old Republic, seeing that the era hasn't been explored onscreen yet. Then again, I'm always up for something entirely unexpected.

Whatever they plan, hopefully it manages to top the stellar work they've did with Game of Thrones. Catch the eighth and final season when it debuts this April 14.
