Game of Thrones Season 8: Varys was Already Trying to Poison Daenerys and We Didn’t Realize It

Varys had already given up on his loyalty to Daenerys and he paid dearly for it in the last episode of Game of Thrones. What went through a lot of people's heads though, is that Varys was already trying to kill Daenerys and this was revealed in the first few minutes of the episode.

It's hinted at when Varys is talking to the little girl Martha who reports that Daenerys hadn't eaten anything in five days. Check out the back and forth between the two:

I guess Daenerys was smart enough to not eat, but what follows for the rest of the episode is nothing but character suicide. So much for Daenerys' speech about ‘mercy being their strength.' You'd think she would fly straight to the Red Keep, but instead, she ends up murdering thousands of civilians on the ground for no reason at all. She shouldn't even be afraid to be taken down since she basically took out all of the scorpions.

With Cersei and the Night King gone, the show is clearly building up to Dany being the final villain of Game of Thrones. While I'm not opposed to this character direction, I kind of wish they just got to this plot at a proper pace. Heck, I would trade all of the fancy shots for a full 13-episode season where the characters get to interact and properly build to the climax.

For now, we wait for the final episode of Game of Thrones 8 to come out this Sunday night on HBO.
