[WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE GAME OF THRONES SEASON 7 FINALE]
A lot of fans expressed their frustration at Sam Tarly when he dismissed Gilly right before she was about to make one of the biggest reveals in the franchise, but they breathed a sigh of relief when it turns out that Sam listened after all, and relayed the information to Bran. As it turns out, Sam is taking credit for the discovery, and actor John Bradley thinks he knows why.
According to an interview with Indiewire, Bradley thinks Sam also felt a bit underappreciated when nobody praised him for finding the cure to grayscale, so this is his way of trying to get a bit of the spotlight. He also continues:
“It’s true that Gilly completely by accident planted the seed of that information into Sam’s mind. He can almost subconsciously absorb it because he’s become so efficient at processing information. He can kind of feel even if he’s not aware of it at the time. He’ll store it in the back of his brain when it’s needed most.”
Even if the show has Sam taking credit, at least Bradley still believes that Gilly should get some of the praise. Then again, I don’t think Gilly is the type to want credit at all. I think she’s just happy that Sam saved her and little Sam from their terrible incest house from beyond the Wall.
Either way, Gilly’s discovery is one big reveal, and after seven seasons of being called the Bastard of Winterfell, we can finally look at Jon and say that he’s the true heir to the Iron Throne. How cool is it that he’s also named after Aegon the Conqueror?
Game of Thrones returns to HBO either on 2018 or 2019.
