First Teaser for Nickelodeon's Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Nickelodeon is looking to reinvent the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles once more, and now they've released the first trailer for their upcoming how, Rise of the TMNT.

The show looks to be a prequel series that would explore how the heroes in the half-shell become the characters we know and love. For one, the series had made some drastic changes when it comes to the team dynamic. Raphael is now the leader of the group, whereas Leonardo is now the cool rebel. The show will also be giving us the first African-American version of April O'Neil.

Fans will also notice that each of the turtles also wields a different weapon this time around. Raph has has traded in his signature sai for tonfa; Leo wields a single blade instead of his twin swords; and Mikey has something called a kusari-fundo. So far, Donnie is the only one who still wields his classic bo staff.

Though I can imagine some people already hating on the drastic changes to the show, it is worth noting that the turtles have been revamped over and over again. It's kind of refreshing to see a take that isn't so familiar. Fingers crossed this will turn out well.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has no specific release date, but it's assumed it will come out this year.
