First Look at the Cast of ABC’s The Little Mermaid Live

While Disney is still trying to put together the cast of their live-action The Little Mermaid film, ABC is moving forward with their live show, The Little Mermaid Live. The TV event has cast Moana star Auli'i Cravalho as the lead, and we have a new teaser giving us a look at Cravalho in costume as well as her co-stars.

Besides Cravalho, The Little MermaidLive has cast Queen Latifah as the sea witch Ursula. Personally, I would have preferred if they cast a drag queen to play the role (seeing as the original animated version was based on 70s queen, Divine), but maybe they could leave representation to the Disney movie instead. If anything, Latifah literally has "queen" in her name.

The show has also cast John Stamos and French Chef Louis, Graham Phillips as Prince Eric, and Shaggy as Sebastian the Crab. There are still a lot of other characters that are unaccounted for like King Triton, Flounder, and Scuttle, but I guess their roles aren't that large, seeing as they don't really have any singing numbers like the actors that have already been cast.

For now, it looks like Disney is taking their time with their Little Mermaid film. As of now, Halle Bailey is the only main cast member that's been announced (Ariel), alongside supporting characters played by Awkwafina (Scuttle), and Jacob Tremblay (Flounder). Rumor has it that Javier Bardem is in talks to play King Triton, but we have yet to get an Ursula or Sebastian.

No release date has been set for the movie, but you can catch The Little Mermaid Live when it airs on ABC on Nov. 5.
