Former Star Wars Episode IX Director Almost Helmed Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Colin Trevorrow was originally set to direct Star Wars Episode IX, but after he was fired from Lucasfilm, he ended up going back to helm the third Jurassic World film. As it turns out, he was very close to directing another space movie for Marvel Studios, Guardians of the Galaxy.

Talking to Empire, Trevorrow explained:

"I did. I met on Guardians of the Galaxy long, long ago. Yeah, very early. It was a great conversation. I was not a comic book kid. That wasn't my thing. I was a Star Wars kid, an IndianaJones kid, a Spielberg kid – that was my thing. So it was a great conversation, but a little bit more of a personal understanding of—you need someone who loved this growing up. [They] should be the ones directing these movies. You've gotta live and breathe it in the way that I did Jurassic and these films that I get to be involved in now."

Of course, the job eventually ended up going to James Gunn who gave us a phenomenal entry to the MCU. As of now, Guardians has managed to be one of higher grossing Marvel movies, and Gunn has been re-hired to direct the third (and possibly his final) GOTG film.

As for Trevorrow, things seem to have taken a tumble when it came to his career. His film before Episode IX, The Book of Henry was met with terrible reviews, and it was said that the performance of that film was a factor to him getting removed from Star Wars. He's still attached for Jurassic World 3 though, and he just released a short film, Battle at Big Rock yesterday.
