Ewan McGregor is Playing Danny Torrance in the Shining Sequel

After the successful release of IT last year, every Hollywood studio is now scrambling to pump out any Stephen King IP that they own. Warner Bros is currently working on an adaptation of the sequel to The Shining titled Doctor Sleep, and Ewan McGregor has been cast in the lead role.

According to Variety, McGregor will be playing the role of a grown-up Danny Torrance, the creepy kid from the first movie. After the events at the Overlook Hotel, Danny Torrance has grown up to be a reflection of his father, a raging alcoholic who drinks to numb the pain of his experience as well as his "shining" powers.

The story follows Danny as he becomes a doctor to help people who are suffering. He find a connection with a little girl who shares his shining powers, and they find that their powers grow when they are at a presence of people with shining abilities who are enduring painful deaths.

It's kind of hard to explain.

The movie will be directed by Mike Flanagan, who also helmed the Netflix adaptation of King's Gerald's Game. Joining him is his producing partner Trevor Macy as well Vertigo's Jon Berg.

I know that McGregor is great at playing protagonists, but it would be fun to watch him as a grown-up Danny Torrance. I would have also wanted to see original Shining actress Shelley DuVall make an appearance in the movie, but finding out where she is today turned out to be one sad Youtube video.

No release date has been set for Doctor Sleep.
